The MVP of the Calendar: The All Out Battle Between April and October for the Best Sports Month

The Magic of April

April is that weird, beautiful time of year where everything feels possible. You have the ultimate high-stakes drama mixed with that “first day of school” energy.

Right now, we are right in the thick of the NBA and NHL playoffs. Every single night there’s a game that could literally break a fan base’s heart. We just saw Michigan take down UConn to win the college hoops title, and we’re still talking about what happened at the Masters last week.

Plus, we have the NFL Draft happening in just three days on April 23. It’s the one time of year where every fan can look at their team and think, “Yeah, we’re definitely going to the Super Bowl next year,” even if they won three games last season. And of course, baseball is back. There is nothing quite like the smell of a ballpark in the spring.

The Chaos of October

Then you have October. This is for the people who just want to be overwhelmed. It’s the home of the Sports Equinox, that glorious day where all four major sports are playing at once.

You get the MLB Postseason, which is basically just a month-long heart attack. The World Series is set to start on October 23, 2026, and that’s right when the NBA and NHL are just getting their seasons started. Throw in the fact that the NFL is in full swing, and you basically have no reason to leave your house for thirty days straight.

The 2026 Wildcard

We also have to mention that this specific year is a bit of an outlier. Since the World Cup starts here in June, our summer is going to be just as chaotic as the spring and fall. Between the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup, and soccer taking over the continent, 2026 might be the best year to be a fan, period.

The Verdict

October is a sprint, but April is a journey. April gives you a little bit of everything: the end of one season, the peak of another, and the beginning of a third.

I’m curious though, are you the kind of fan who likes the “win or go home” intensity of April, or do you prefer the total sensory overload we get in October?
