Raiders’ New Dynasty? 2026 NFL Draft Preview: Predictions, Blockbuster Trades, and Day 1 Winners

It’s Draft Day! As the sun rises over Pittsburgh and the city gears up to host the 2026 NFL Draft at Acrisure Stadium, the air is thick with anticipation. This year’s class might be polarized, but the stakes couldn’t be higher. From a “generational” linebacker to a Heisman-winning quarterback destined for the Silver and Black, here is your guide to what you need to be on the lookout for tonight.

1. The Mendoza Era Begins in Vegas

There’s no “who will they take?” drama at the very top this year. The Las Vegas Raiders are all but locked in on Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza at No. 1. After leading the Hoosiers to their first national title, Mendoza is being hailed as the “savior” for a Raiders franchise looking for a fresh start under the mentorship of minority owner Tom Brady.

Watch out for: Whether any other team panics and reaches for Alabama’s Ty Simpson or Miami’s Carson Beck late in the first round. Beyond Mendoza, this isn’t a deep QB class, which could lead to some desperate (and expensive) trade-ups.

2. Stars on the Move: The Kyle Pitts Watch

While the rookies get the spotlight, a veteran superstar is dominating the rumor mill. Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts is reportedly on the trade block.

  • The Chiefs are the team to watch here. With Travis Kelce nearing 37, Kansas City has two first-round picks (including No. 29) and could view Pitts as the ultimate heir to the throne.
  • The Giants already made a splash by trading star DT Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals for the No. 10 overall pick. Could they use that extra capital to move even higher?

3. Teams Poised to Get Much Better

  • New York Giants: Holding both the No. 5 and No. 10 picks, the G-Men are the biggest power brokers tonight. Expect them to target elite protection like Miami’s Francis Mauigoa or an offensive spark like Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love.
  • Ohio State Fans (and the NFL): The Buckeyes are set to dominate the top 10. Defensive studs Arvell Reese (LB/Edge) and Caleb Downs (S) are viewed as “plug-and-play” superstars. Whoever lands Reese—likely the Jets at No. 2 or the Cardinals at No. 3—gets a Micah Parsons-level disruptor immediately.
  • Kansas City Chiefs: They are hungry for a true No. 1 receiver for Patrick Mahomes. Don’t be surprised if they jump from No. 9 into the top 7 to snag Ohio State’s Carnell Tate.

4. Who Might “Miss Out”?

  • Arizona Cardinals: They want to trade out of No. 3 to stockpile picks for a 2027 run at Arch Manning, but reports suggest there are “few takers” for the pick. If they’re “stuck” at three, they’ll likely take Jeremiyah Love—a great player, but perhaps not the haul of picks they were dreaming of.
  • Seattle Seahawks: With only four total picks in this draft, GM John Schneider is desperate to trade down. If they can’t find a partner, they’ll be forced to use their premium No. 32 pick on a player they might feel they could have gotten later, further limiting their ability to fill holes.

Draft Night “Wildcard”

Keep an eye on the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21. With Aaron Rodgers now under center in the Steel City, the pressure is on to get him protection (like Utah’s Spencer Fano) or a weapon. If they pass on a tackle to take a flashy skill player, the local fans—and Rodgers—might have a long night.

The Bottom Line: Tonight is about value. In a draft where the talent drops off sharply after the top 15, the teams that navigate the trade market early will be the ones holding the trophies in February.

Grab your wings and settle in—the Raiders are on the clock!
